This week's blog will be about the salon, what we offer and who we are... This is a great starting point so you know who I am and what I do! I think it's so important for 'customers' to feel like family... I always tell people I have my "son" and my "kids", "kids" being my dogs! Too frequently we lose touch with people in this facebook/smart phone world. Get to know me before you meet me, like family you'll either love me or hate me. ;)
I am Mandi, the proud owner of the Green Paw Spa located at 1775 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, RI. I have been in the pet industry now since 2005; always making a point to work for pet retailers, doggy daycares, grooming salons, dog food companies, and for many years as a dog trainer. Pets truly are my passion.
I graduated from Mt. Ida College (Newton, MA) with a certificate in Dog Grooming. The intense coarse was two college semesters focusing on first aid, breed standards, clipping, scissoring and business techniques. In a later article I will discuss what it means to be a certified groomer, good or bad!
After college I apprenticed under a groomer in MA. Like any skilled art, grooming takes many hours and years to perfect; (and you can ALWAYS learn more!) the only way to become better is under a master of that art. I learned a lot and continue to expand my knowledge... every dog, customer, haircut and day is different!
I decided to open the Green Paw Spa after working as a doggy daycare manager, I realized what I liked and did not like about their business model. Having over 6 years’ experience in this business I decided to take the plunge... while being 6 months pregnant with my son! North Providence granted me my trade name for The Green Paw Spa on April 8th, Ronan was born April 12th! Two births in one week, I was exhausted to say the least! ;)
The reason the Green Paw Spa is green: We use a bathing system that cuts our water consumption by 80%. Use only biodegradable, organic and natural shampoos/conditioners. Our cleaners are natural and 100% safe for your pet. As much as humanly possible we try to be paperless (computer system, email appointment/reminders, scan instead of copy your pet’s vaccine papers, Etc). All the furniture and fixtures in the Green Paw Spa are from a recycled source. On top of being Green, we are also Holistic. What’s Holistic? We take into account your pet’s physical, mental and emotional state.
